Team Manitoba at Canada Cup West

The archers from Archery Manitoba’s Provincial Target Team showcased their exceptional skills and competitive spirit at Archery Canada’s 2023 Canada Cup West. The event, hosted by Timberland Bowbenders in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on June 10 and 11, witnessed the outstanding performances of the team members across various divisions and categories.

The team consisted of compound archers Austin Taylor, Bailey Mathers, Brady Klassen, Chyler Sanders, Ryan Cherniak, and Taylor Klimchuk. Recurve archers Cleo Wermann-Thorn, Kadin Giebelhaus, Ryder Wilson and Sarah May. As well as Para Compound archers Chris Waterman and Rob Cox and Team Manitoba 3D member Joel Brugger.

Led by coach Kelly Taylor, who stepped up in the absence of program coach Avril Hatherell, the team demonstrated their dedication and talent, securing podium finishes in every event they entered.

The compound archers from Manitoba proved their dominance in the mixed-team event, claiming both the gold and silver positions. Austin Taylor took home the gold, while Bailey Mathers and Joel Brugger earned well-deserved silver medals.

Not to be outdone, the recurve archers from Manitoba showcased their prowess as well. Cleo Wermann-Thorn and Kadin Giebelhaus secured the first-place position in the recurve mixed team event, followed by an impressive silver medal performance by Sarah May and Ryder Wilson.

Individually, the team continued to excel. Bailey Mathers earned a silver medal in the U18 Compound Female category, while Chyler Sanders clinched the gold in U21 Compound Female. Taylor Klimchuk rounded off the team’s achievements with a bronze medal.

In the compound male division, Austin Taylor emerged victorious, taking home the gold in the highly competitive U21 and 21+ field. In the recurve U21/U18 women’s event, Cleo Wermann-Thorn earned the gold, with Sarah May capturing the silver. Ryder Wilson displayed his talent in the U18 men’s recurve, earning a well-deserved bronze medal.
