ABAM TEAM SELECTION POLICY for the 2019 CANADA WINTER GAMES
2019 Canada Winter Games – February 15 – March 3, 2019 (Archery Event Dates TBD)
1) INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this selection document is to define the specific process and criteria used by ABAM to select the archery athletes that ABAM will send to compete at the 2019 Canada Winter Games, to be held in Red Deer, Alberta from February 15th to March 3rd, 2019.
One (1) Compound Male, One (1) Compound Female, One (1) Recurve Male and One (1) Recurve Female will be sent to the 2019 Canada Winter Games. There will be one alternate athlete selected for each of the above team spots.
2) DECISION AUTHORITY
Under the guidance of ABAM’s Athlete Development Committee, the ABAM Executive Committee is the sole decision-making authority for the approval of nominations of athletes.
3) ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for the 2019 Canada Winter Games Team
To be eligible for selection to compete at the Canada Winter Games, archery athletes must meet the eligibility criteria outlined below:
4) ATHLETES EXCLUDED FROM THE CANADA GAMES (as per the event Technical Package)
“No athlete can be rendered ineligible within 90 days of the opening of the Games due to carding status or National Team status (i.e., no athlete will be excluded if they become National Senior Team members for the first time or are granted carding status after November 10th, 2018).
* Athletes who hold a C card (as defined by Sport Canada’s Athlete Assistance program) or are in their first year of Senior National Team status may be deemed eligible on a case by case basis. Requests must be submitted to the respective Provincial/Territorial Chef de Mission and approved by the Canada Games Council’s Sport Committee.”
5) TEAM SELECTION PROCEDURES
The objective of the team selection process is: Select athletes with a reasonable probability of finishing in the top half of the men’s and women’s competition.
The following specific criteria will be used for the selection of archery athletes to compete at the 2019 Canada Winter Games:
Ranking scores will be determined as follows:
A minimum of five (5) scores above or equal to the Minimum Qualifying Scores (MQS) must be submitted during the qualifying period to be ranked for selection. Total cumulative score of an athletes top three (3) scores will determine final ranking score. The top archer and one (1) alternate per equipment division and gender category with the highest ranking score will make up the team.
The Minimum Qualifying Scores (MQS) for selection are as follows:
Compound Male: score of 573
Compound Female: score of 562
Recurve Male: score of 535
Recurve Female: score of 491
Tie Break Rule:
In the event of a tie, the following tie break procedures will be taken in the following priority.
SUBJECTIVE CRITERIA
In the case no athlete meets the MQS for team selection ranking in a specific division & category, the following subjective criteria will be utilized.
The athletes meeting the above criteria, will be approved and notified by the ABAM Executive Committee no later than December 10, 2018.
It will be the archers’ sole responsibility to ensure correct scores have been submitted to the ABAM and posted to the Ranking, a list of archers with submitted qualifying scores will be posted on the ABAM as they are received

Grounds for appeals will be limited strictly to:
The deadline for athletes to submit appeals to the ABAM Canada Games Appeal Committee is two (2) days after final selection has been announced. Appeals should be emailed to: ABAM Executive Director at info@abam.ca
It is with a heavy heart that the Archers & Bowhunters Association of Manitoba announces the passing of Roger Garrod, a great man and ambassador to the sport of Archery. Roger was a tireless volunteer and archer of many disciplines, during his years of involvement he served on multiple provincial and national committees, was a provincial coach, coach educator, as well judging provincial, national, and international events. More recently, Roger had been an integral part of his local club, the Selkirk Archers & Bowhunters as it increased events and development, as well a driving force behind getting Archery back in the Manitoba Games. Roger will be missed. Our sincere condolences go out to Roger’s family and in particular his wife Helen.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 12 in the Qualico Family Centre by the duck pond in Assiniboine Park. This information is also posted on the Cropo Funeral Chapel website.

The ABAM 2017 Annual Awards Lunch & Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday November 26, 2017 at the Manitoba Sport Hall of Fame at the Sport for Life Center, located at 145 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.
The Awards Ceremonies will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by lunch at 12:00. The Annual General Meeting will take place following lunch at approximately 1:00 PM.
The following awards are currently open for nomination:
Target Archer of the Year: In recognition of the Manitoba Archer with the most outstanding achievement(s) in provincial, national or international Target Archery in the past year.
3D Archer of the Year: In recognition of the Manitoba Archer with the most outstanding achievement(s) in provincial, national or international 3D Archery in the past year.
Rising Star Award: In recognition of the Manitoba Youth Archer (Cadet & under) with the most outstanding achievement(s) in provincial, national or international archery in the past year.
Coach of the Year Award: Awarded to the Coach who has contributed the most to developing archery in the province of Manitoba during the previous year.
Volunteer of the Year: Awarded to the volunteer who has contributed the most to developing archery with in the province of Manitoba during the previous year.
To nominate a fellow member for one the above listed awards, please download the Award Nomination Form below and submit via email to info@abam.ca no later than Friday November 10.

The Manitoba Winter Games Archery Event is seeking female and male archers aged 16 & Under with intermediate to advance skills in recurve or compound archery. The Manitoba Winter Games is a fantastic athletic and character building experience for youth, as they will practice, travel and compete with their fellow team members to represent their home region in Manitoba. This exciting developmental event will take place in Thompson, MB and will include a 3 three day archery tournament starting March 4, 2018. Whether you are a bowhunter or recreational archer with limited competition experience, we encourage you to participate in your regional preparation camps!
The preparation camps (“Prep Camps”) are hosted by regional coaches and managers with National Coach Certification Program (NCCP) training and is geared toward development of archery skills and introduction to competition. The Prep Camps will prepare archers for the regional qualifier hosted in December 2017.
One of best parts about the Manitoba Winter Games Archery Event is the low cost for the opportunity to participate! There is no cost associated to the participation in the Regional Prep Camps & Qualifier.
Please note, it is not mandatory to attend both Prep Camps, but it is recommended.

The Archers & Bowhunters Association of Manitoba is proud to be a part of the 2018 Manitoba Games, to be hosted in Thompson, MB in Winter 2018.
The 2018 Manitoba Winter Games Powered by Manitoba Hydro will be held in Thompson from March 4-10, 2018. The Games are a competitive, developmental opportunity for selected sports to advance their Provincial Sport Organization’s long term athlete and coach development plans. The age or stage selected generally complies with the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Train to Train stage of development.
Participation in the Manitoba Games begins with regional try outs. Regional teams of approximately 200 athletes, coaches, and managers go on to participate in the Provincial Finals.
The Manitoba Games Powered by Manitoba Hydro are often an athlete’s first multi-sport Games experience. The Games help to identify Manitoba athletes who have the potential to advance to higher levels of competition: Provincial Team, National Competitions, and the Canada and Western Canada Games. After competing in the Manitoba Games, many athletes move on to become part of Team Manitoba.
The Archers and Bowhunters Association of Manitoba is proud to have four Provincial Team Archers heading to the 2017 World Archery Youth Championships in Rosario, Argentina this weekend. Team Members Austin Taylor, Brady Klassen & Robbie Comberbach will be competing in the individual and team events in the Cadet Compound Male Division. Team Member Bryanne Lameg will be competing in the individual and team events in the Junior Compound Female Division. The organization would like to wish all of the athletes from Manitoba and the rest of Canada the best of luck in their performance. We will be watching with excitement and supporting them as they compete at the highest level of their respective age category.

The tournament will begin with official practice on Monday October 2 and will end the evening of Sunday October 8 with medal matches. World Archery will be providing coverage of the event with live scoring on IANSEO, photography and video.
