(shown above: Archery Manitoba VP Events & Archery Canada Board Member Aaron Bull during opening ceremonies)

Manitoba had a strong contingent of 3D shooters attend the 2019 Canadian 3D Championships in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan over the August Long Weekend. Reflecting the growing interest in competitive 3D Archery in our province, the event saw 21 team and general members represent Manitoba, in a variety of categories and divisions. Team Manitoba was well represented, having Alexander Perron, April Willis, Brad Hackewich, Brendan Mills, Cornelia Squirra, Ed Wilson, Francois Squirra, Jaxon Chadney, Josten North, Miles Towle, Reed Fowlie, Reid Jonasson, and Russ Danielson in attendance. While Archery Manitoba Members, Brian Erickson, Darcie Widish, Jay Beauerlein, Leon Laffin, Patrick Perron and Taylor Laffin also in attendance.

The organization would like to thank 3D Team Leader Ed Wilson for all his hard work in lead up to, and at the National Championships. Ed has worked tirelessly this year, volunteering his time to reshaping the team program, hosting clinics and practices and organizing team travel. We look forward to what can be built beyond the progress made in 2019.

We would also like to recognize and thank Manitoba 3D Archery Provincial Representative Russ Danielson and Archery Canada Board Member and Vice President 3D Aaron Bull for their ongoing support and volunteering. Both Aaron and Russ participated in national meetings while attending the event.

Finally, we would like to congratulate all of our Manitoba Shooters on thier performance. Highlights from the Manitoba specific results include Cornelia Squirra securing a Team Canada Spot to represent our country at the 2019 World 3D Championships in Lac La Biche, Alberta in early September, and medal finishes for Alex Perron, April Willis, Cornelia Squirra, and Jaxon Chadney. Congratulations to theses shooters for making the podium.

Announcement: A.B.A.M rebrand to Archery Manitoba

We’ve got exciting news to share today – the Archers & Bowhunters Association of Manitoba has a new name and look! We are pleased to announce, as of August 2, 2019 the organization will be rebrand to be called “Archery Manitoba”.

As we continue to grow the sport of Archery in Manitoba, we are expanding our areas of focus, and updating existing programs and events. After surveying our member clubs, partners and stakeholders, it was clear that our organizations image must appropriately reflect why we exist, what we believe in, and where we’re headed.

The rebrand is a reflection of our evolving organizational mandates necessary to remaining aligned with the sport of archery across Canada, and internationally, as well our funding partner (Sport Manitoba) and our National Body (Archery Canada).

The organization’s legal corporate name will remain “Archers & Bowhunters Association of Manitoba” indefinitely. While the website and main email domains will change to www.archerymanitoba.ca and info@archerymanitoba.ca, respectively

This marks a new chapter in our ongoing mission to grow the sport of archery in Manitoba, in all its forms. Thank you to our membership and partner clubs for inspiring this important change!

Glen Lewer

Passing of Glenn Lewer

It is with a heavy heart that the Archers & Bowhunters Association of Manitoba announces the passing of Glenn Lewer, a true gentleman and ambassador to the sport of archery. Glenn was an avid archer and archery coach, playing a key role in developing young archers in Manitoba with his involvement for many years as a coach with the Heights Archery Academy and more recently the Assistant Coach for the 2015 Canada Winter Games Team. Since the Winter Games in 2015, Glenn had taken on a key role with the ABAM, sitting on the Executive Committee as our Vice President Athlete Development and being named Provincial Head Recurve Coach. Glenn will missed by all. Our sincere condolences go out to the Lewer family and in particular his wife Sheila and his two sons Riel and Grayson.
