After more than three and half years, the South Moutain Archery Shooters & Hunters Club (S.M.A.S.H) of Erickson, Manitoba hosted a club 3D event this past weekend. The event was hosted largely by a group of new club volunteers who came together this past fall. Those same volunteers have been working hard over the past several weeks to secure and prepare the Erickson Recreation Centre for the annual indoor event. Despite some unexpectedly poor weather on Sunday, the club was pleased to report attendance of over 70 archers, in addition to family and spectators.
Club president Myles Meir was nothing but positive when reporting that the club felt the event was a success in terms of the volunteer and archer’s experience, as well from a club fundraising perspective. In addition to an estimated $3000 in club funds raised, Myles noted it was great to see so many new shooters of all ages, along with familiar faces enjoying the range setup. Myles was pleased to see amongst the new archers, a large group of strong youth shooters, and attributed Neil Brown and Reed Fowlie of Jo Brook for their hard work developing and encouraging participation in 3D events in the region.
Archery Manitoba would like to thank the executive committee and all of the volunteers of the SMASH Archery Club for their hard work and dedication to hosting the event. With only a handful of indoor 3D events throughout the indoor season, the value of a club hosting for the community cannot be understated!
