3D Team Announcement: 2018/2019 Provincial Team Named
July 31, 2018 – The Archers & Bowhunters Association of Manitoba is pleased to announce the 2018/2019 Provincial 3D Team that will represent Manitoba at major events over the coming year, including the 2018 Canadian 3D Archery Championships in Truro, Nova Scotia (August 3 – 6)
This years team will be made up of Three (3) females and Five (5) males in varying age divisions from Cub (14 & Under) to Senior (21 & up).

Passing of Harvey Harte
It is with sadness that our organization share the news of the passing of former National Medalist, Provincial Champion and Volunteer Harvey Harte. The Archers & Bowhunters Association of Manitoba send’s there condolences to Harvey’s family and friends.

Keenan Brown named as Athlete Representative
June 27, 2018 – The Archers & Bowhunters Association of Manitoba is happy to announce the naming of long time Provincial and National Team Member, Keenan Brown as the 2018/2019 Manitoba Provincial Target Team Athlete Representative. Keenan will be acting in the role for the second consecutive year, sitting as a member of the ABAM Athlete Development Committee.
25 year old Brown has been nominated by his peers to represent the team based on his leadership qualities, insight and experience as a National Champion, World Archery Medalist and Canada Winter Games Champion. The Athlete Development Committee is proud to have a long serving member of the team take this role and it looks forward to continuing to work with Keenan on the further development of our athletes.

Of the athletes named to the team, Austin Taylor, Brady Klassen, Bryanne Lameg, Chyler Sanders, Keenan Brown, Kyle Cherniak, Nattasha Shpak, Robbie Comberbach, Ryan Cherniak, Simon Potrebka and Sloane Scrivener will be travelling to Truro, NS. later this summer to compete at the 2018 Canadian Archery Championships.
The organization would like to highlight the addition of new team members Brandon Peterson, Chyler Sanders, Hailee MacDonald and Sloane Scrivener (shown below from left to right). Sanders, MacDonald, Scrivener, along with 2017/2018 Provincial Team Development Squad archer Nattasha Shpak took part in the 2018 Manitoba Winter Games Program, later competing and medalling in the individual and team events. We are extremely proud to see the development of these Manitoba Games Athletes qualifying for the Team Program for the first time and making the jump to the Elite Squad.

2018 Manitoba Provincial Target Championships
On Saturday July 15th the Selkirk Archers & Bowhunters Club hosted the 2018 Manitoba Provincial Target Championships and Manitoba Open in East Selkirk, MB. The event hosted on a hot, windy day, included a 720 Round Event to determine the Provincial Champions, followed by the combined match play elimination event, the Manitoba Open. Despite the heat and challenging wind conditions, the event drew 37 of the best target shooters in the Province to compete for the title of top Manitoban. The Archers & Bowhunters Association of Manitoba would like to thank Mike Fox, Darlene Cherniak and the rest of the Selkirk Archers & Bowhunters for hosting a top quality event. The organization would also like to thank the archers and supporting parents for their participation in the event, it was a pleasure to see such a diverse field made up of a variety of all ages, genders and disciplines. It is a true indication of all the hard work that clubs in Manitoba are doing to grow the sport of archery.
Thank you to all the volunteers and judges for their support of the event! We would like to specifically recognize our Treasurer Robert Tataryn for running the Manitoba Open and presenting the plaques, our President Vickie Oneschuk for leading the awards ceremony, our VP Coaches & Officials Mike Oneschuk for acting as head judge and member Kelly Scrivener for providing the event photography. South East Archers Double 720 & Elimination Match Play
EVENT REMINDER: The South East Archers Club will be hosting its first ever Outdoor Target Event this coming weekend in Giroux, MB, near Steinbach, MB at D & G Family Archery Range Ltd. The event will include two 720 Rounds Saturday, followed by a single 720 Round and Match Play on Sunday. Match play ranking will be based off the archers best 720 round score from all three rounds during the weekend.

Team Manitoba Competes at 2018 Alberta Summer Classic
Team Manitoba Archers Austin Taylor, Brady Klassen, Kyle Cherniak & Ryan Cherniak traveled to Sherwood Park, Alberta on the July Long weekend to compete at the 2nd annual Alberta Summer Classic. Joining the team was Team Manager Darlene Cherniak and Manitoba National Judge, Mike Oneschuk. The two day qualification comprised of a two 720 rounds in very windy, cold conditions. Our archers adjusted and shot well with Taylor finishing qualification ranked 1st in Compound Men with a score of 1341. Meanwhile, in the Compound Men Cadet event, Brady Klassen ranked 1st with a score of 1329, followed by Kyle Cherniak in 7th and Ryan Cherniak in 8th with scores of 1169 and 1125 respectively. In the match play event, Taylor received a bye to the quarter finals before winning three straight matches to take 1st place overall. In the Compound Men Cadet event, Ryan Cherniak had a decisive win in his 1/8 match and moved on to the quarters before losing 108 – 120 to teammate Brady Klassen in the quarterfinal. Meanwhile Kyle Cherniak eliminated shooters from Alberta and British Columbia before meeting Clay Laronde in the semi-final. Cherniak and Laronde shot a very close match ending with a shoot off, where both archers shot a 9, with clay slightly closer to center. Cherniak moved on to the bronze medal match against Cameron Palichuk, where he fell just short of a win with a close match scored 131 – 132. as the matches closed out, Klassen won in the semi’s with a big score of 135 – 115, taking him to the gold medal final. In the final Klassen shot his best score of the day, taking out Clay Laronde with a match score of 142 – 133 to take 1st place overall.
Congratulations to all the members of the team on their performance in Alberta, you make us proud. Thank you to volunteer manager Darlene Cherniak on a job well done and to Judge Mike Oneschuk for officiating his 3rd National Event in the past year.
